‘Loss’ controls what the viewer is able to see (or not see) by removing the hands on the clock, the picture from the frames, the images/words from the book and her face. Curran’s loss of sight is represented within this image whilst simultaneously controlling the viewer’s ability to see. ‘Loss’ is a conceptual image that was a personal response to recent news of her cornea failing. This will inevitably result in the full loss of sight in her left eye and eventually complete removal surgery. The clock is significantly relevant, as her loss of sight is an event that is being counted down to. The viewer cannot read the time without the hands thus Curran controls what the viewer sees or more importantly doesn’t see. The clock also represents the issue she faces of the unknown timeframe in which she will lose her sight fully in her left eye.
